I got my first pair of glasses when I was 3 years old. So I have been visiting the eye doctor all my life. When I began to think about what kind of career I wanted to pursue, I knew that a career in optometry would be perfect for me because it will allow me to pursue a challenging, high-level profession that also has a great, rewarding impact on patients' lives.
Knowing that I have always wanted to pursue a challenging career, I have focused on STEM-related classes, excelling in all my science and math classes. I was able to complete the two-year Health Science Medical CTE Program offered by our school district. Completing this program solidified my desire to pursue a career in the healthcare industry. My high school career path also included as many honors and dual enrollment classes as possible. I am privileged to attend Vancleave High School, an A-rated and high-ranking school in MS (recently named the #2 highest ACT scores in state). Our teachers and administration work tirelessly to ensure that we are prepared for college.

After graduating from Vancleave High School in May 2026, I plan to attend Mississippi State University in the fall of 2026 to pursue an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences/Pre-Optometry. After completing my undergraduate degree, I plan to attend optometry school.

Evidence shows that students involved in extra-curricular activities are more interested in school than their peers. Being involved in clubs has helped me develop new interests, make lifelong friends, develop new skills, and engage in meaningful activities outside the classroom. I believe I am a more well-rounded student because of my involvement in these activities. I am a multi-sport student athlete, playing on the VHS varsity basketball and baseball teams. I am also actively involved in Student Council, National Honor Society, Key Club and First Priority Club, as well as an active member of First Baptist Church of Vancleave's youth group.

I am a multi-sport student athlete at Vancleave High School, having been a part of both the basketball and baseball teams all four years of high school. I am a 3-year letterman in basketball, and I currently serve as the team captain. I was named Most Valuable Leader my junior year and earned the Bulldog Award my sophomore year. I have also been a player on Vancleave's baseball team, which was the 2024 MHSAA 5A State Champions. Being a player, especially on high-performing teams, requires a level of commitment and effort that has provided invaluable lessons to me, not only as an athlete, but also as a well-rounded person.

I have had tremendous opportunity to serve my community. I expect to have nearly 200 hours of community service by the time I graduate in May 2026. Many of these hours have been spent as a volunteer for Backpack Buddies of Vancleave, which collects and distributes food for students that need food assistance while away from school. Some of my responsibilities include packing, moving and organizing donated food, as well as packing and distributing bags to students. I have also had the opportunity to volunteer with both the youth baseball and basketball leagues in our community. I have helped lead youth training camps, worked tournaments as a scorekeeper, and also assisted in coaching. As part of my church youth group, I have been a youth volunteer at Vacation Bible School each summer and at TWow, an overnight retreat for elementary-age kids. Serving my community helped me to realize how my actions can positively impact others. The skills I have obtained will help me be a better college student and, eventually, a better employee in the workforce. We can work together to make the world a better place and ensure our community's needs are met.

My educational journey at Vancleave High School has helped me become well-rounded. I've learned to balance my time between my classes, athletics, church, extra-curricular activities, work, and home life. These experiences will continue to mold me into a successful college student.
